HOW TO PLAY BOCCE

Italy's second favorite sport

BOCCE RULES

  1. Divide into two teams of 1, 2, or 4 players.

  2. Each team splits its four balls equally among players.

  3. A player from Team One throws the pallino toward the far end of the court - must cross halfway without hitting the back wall. If pallino hits back wall, Team Two throws the pallino.

  4. That same player then throws one bocce ball to get it as close to the pallino as possible.

  5. The other team then throws one bocce ball.

  6. The team whose ball is not closest throws next and keeps throwing until their ball is closest. Then, the other team throws. Repeat until one team has used all four balls. Then the other team throws its remaining balls.

  7. The team with the closest ball scores 1 point for each of its balls that are closer to the pallino than the other team’s closest ball.

  8. If both teams’ closest balls are the same distance from the pallino, the ball that was originally closest scores the point.

  9. A frame ends after all 8 balls are thrown and points are counted. The scoring team starts the next frame.

  10. The first team to reach 16 points wins!
